There are a few types of organizers which are extremely common to find in the home improvement store, but buyers beware. While many of these do-it-yourself organizers look fairly simple, they can be a substantial challenge for the average home owner to install. Unless the home owner possesses a pair of large bolt cutters, these wire shelving organizers are very tough to cut down to size
Wire shelving systems are quite sturdy and strong however, it is crucial to mount the brackets and support arms into a stud. Wall anchors may be used in place of securing the brackets directly to the studs, but may limit the amount of weight the wire shelving can support. The other aspect to be aware of is that once the wire shelving has been mounted properly with the support arms underneath, these are not adjustable. The versatility and flexibility of adjusting a shelf quickly and easily is just simply not there.
The other commonly found type of shelving is laminate. Compared to custom made wood closet organizers, which can be finished in almost unlimited color tones, colors consist of the basic maple, oak, white or black shelving. While laminated particle board is easier to mount than wire shelving, the sizes and widths of available organizer units are pre-manufactured, which may leave a little unusable space in the closet.
Basic shelving is normally not adequate. Cubby holes, drawers and clothes rods are always needed. There are professional companies which employ trained installers to provide true custom layouts which will make use of every single inch of a closet. Where this becomes of major importance is when space is extremely limited. Studio apartments and city living can sacrifice space for the sake of urban convenience.
Of course a professionally installed custom solution will be slightly more expensive than the home owner struggling with the do-it-yourself route, but it is often worth the extra investment. Remember, the point of organizing the closets is to create a usable space in order to reduce stress and time wasting. Self installing can be cause for a much needed massage and meditation.
